Questions about feeding birds
In short, based on the recommendations of OTOP and GDOŚ.
When should you start feeding birds?
There is no single date on the calendar, the weather decides. OTOP advises starting when snow falls and frost sets in, while GDOŚ warns against feeding too early. Once you begin feeding, keep it up regularly until the end of winter.
What to feed birds in winter?
Sunflower (hulled or in the husk), unsalted nuts, unsalted suet, fat balls without netting and seed mixes work best. The food must be dry and fresh, without mould.
What do tits eat?
Tits readily eat sunflower, unsalted suet and fat balls, which they like especially. Remove the plastic netting from the balls, because birds can get tangled in it.
Can you give birds bread?
No. OTOP strongly advises against bread: it has a lot of salt and carbohydrates and few nutrients, gives a false feeling of fullness and can lead to emaciation of birds.
