For rabbits and guinea pigs, the basis of the diet is hay, about 85% of what they eat (RSPCA, PDSA), and the mix is an addition. You will find hay in the section bedding and substrate. Give the fruit treat, Exclusive and Megan Variete alongside the basic food, not instead of it. Fresh water must always be within reach.
Questions about rodent food
Why is hay so important for a rabbit?
Because it makes up most of its diet, about 85% according to RSPCA and PDSA, and the fibre in hay wears down the teeth. Hay should be in the cage all the time.
How much mix should I give a rabbit?
PDSA gives about a tablespoon a day, and two tablespoons for a rabbit weighing over 3.5 kg. The rest of the diet is hay and greens.
What food for a hamster?
MEGI mixes or Basic food for rodents, whose description lists hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits.
How often should a chinchilla have a dust bath?
Megan recommends 2 to 3 times a week. Chinchilla bath dust is in this section.
